Meet the PI

Arianna Long (she/they) is a professor at the University of Washington studying how massive galaxies form, grow, and die in the high-redshift Universe. Prof. Long uses observations across the electromagnetic spectrum from both ground and space-based observatories, with a special emphasis on infrared light. The ultimate goal is to understand how the main ingredients of galaxies (stars, gas, dust and dark matter) interplay and evolve over time to create the most massive galaxies in the cosmos.

  • Nguyễn Bình

    Bình (they/them) is a writer from Hanoi, Vietnam. Their poetry has appeared in various literary journals, and their translation of the medieval Vietnamese verse novel The Tale of Kiều is slated for publication by Major Books in Spring 2025. Outside of writing, Bình is a second-year PhD student in Astronomy, looking for potential neighbors around massive high-redshift quenched galaxies. Website: nguyenbinh1612.github.io

  • Tiara Anderson

    Tiara (she/her) is a recent Florida State University graduate and future UW Astronomy PhD student. Her prior research experience was building code to interpret data from and simulate collisions in particle accelerators in the subfield of nuclear astrophysics. Her current research project is on measuring the morphologies of dusty, starbursting galaxies.

  • Jessica Washington

    Jessica (she/her) has a BA in Astrophysics from Wellesley and a ScM from Brown. She is working on spatially resolved SED fitting of dusty star forming galaxies. Outside of astrophysics and related outreach, Jessica enjoys baking, reading nonfiction, visiting museums, and listening to music (live, via streaming, and from her growing CD and vinyl collections).
